You can support our local talents’ efforts to enhance the culture of our community and bring the mythos and magic of tap dance to the Tampa Bay Area. These local tap dance ensembles preserve and promote the rich tradition of this art form that has influenced and inspired so many to reach for the stars. Tap dancing is characterized by spunk, energy and originality, traits displayed by many famous tap dancers throughout history and also by our Tap Dance Ambassadors of Florida. Each one of our entertainers has their own unique style of tap and they are joined on stage by some of the top tap dance performers and talent in the Tampa Bay Area in these local tap dance ensembles.
The Florida Tap Dance Ambassadors
The Florida Tap Dance Ambassadors is a strategic partnership coordinated by Kayla Cowart, the Tap Girl of Florida, under the Florida Tap Dance Project. The Ambassadors work collaboratively to compliment the State’s performing arts industry and cultural activities by developing strategies that will enhance the State’s urban identity through its emerging culture and creative industry of tap dance. Together the Tap Dance Ambassadors of Florida have united to identify common goals that transcend tap dance from local boundaries to a regional, statewide, and national agenda. The Tap Dance Ambassadors of Florida collective influence and priorities reflects the input and involvement of 7 Tap Dance Ambassadors, 8 Tap Dance Ensembles, and 7 of the State of Florida’s local municipalities spanning 4 counties on Florida’s Coast. Under the Florida Tap Dance Project, the Tap Dance Ambassadors of Florida strive to elevate the tap dance industry and develop strategies that advance the art form and further their cause to keep all of the mythos and magic of tap dance alive in their local communities and across the State of Florida.
Founded in 2008, under the direction of Morgan Angelillis Storrison, Tapped In is Tampa Bay's premier young adult tap dance performance ensemble. Its members consist of Intermediate/Advanced level tap dancers, male and female, ages 16-35, with a passion for tap dance. Tapped In prides itself on strong technique, musicality, improvisational skills and a love for tap dance. Since 2008 Tapped In has been entertaining audiences and communities across the Tampa Bay area.
Tapped In’s mission is to invest in the education of young talented tap dancers and offer them the opportunity to perform, to exhibit and enlighten the widest audience possible with its exclusive tap dance repertoire. By creating new works of the highest quality and creativity, Tapped In consistently contributes to the preservation and advancement of the treasured American art form of tap dance.

Truth Tap Company
Truth Tap Company is an elite tap dance group who performs around the Tampa Bay Area. The Company dances out of St. Petersburg in Jeanne Lynn Dance Studio. The young adult Tap Company was founded by Ruth Ann Martin in September of 2014 and the members ages range from 13-19 years old. Ruth, age 22, operates the company as a high energy troupe whose performances consists of intricate tap sounds, with quick footwork and engaging tap tricks. A young and vibrant company its style and pop vernacular is best characterized as a contemporary fusion of rhythm or rhythmical variation that is audible and musical. Each member of the Truth Tap Company dances with great proficiencies. It is in this way that the Company also becomes percussive musicians while tapping by syncopation and improvisation.
Rhythm & Sole Tap Ensemble
Rhythm & Sole is Tampa Bay Taps’ resident performing tap company. Rhythm & Sole was created to give dancers who love tap the opportunity to perform for audiences and share their talent outside of a recital and competitive setting. Since Rhythm & Sole was founded the tap ensemble has danced from Clearwater, Florida to New York City.
Rhythm & Sole is a family that shares a passion for all aspects of American Tap. The tap dancers highly value tap history, alongside impressive technique. Rhythm & Sole’s signature style is to pass along tap traditions as the company mesmerize audiences with their footwork. Rhythm & Sole has created unique musical compositions using gumboots and bucket drumming to name a couple.
Noise Complaint is a professional Tap Dance Theatre company that travels the US and performs fully choreographed tap dance shows that are infused with improv acting and comedy to bring to life famed and favorite characters while taking the audience on a rhythmic adventure. As the company often performs several times throughout any given event, each show is entirely unique to the others, giving audiences a chance to see the show multiple times in one weekend without ever seeing the same dance twice.
The company was founded by Jenne Vermes in 2013 in Jacksonville, FL, and has since brought their creative energies to stages all around the United States. The company performs at a wide variety of venues and events including geek culture conventions, theatre performance series and arts festivals including events such as MegaCon, Florida SuperCon, the St. Augustine Ballet International Dance Festival and more.
Rhythm Theory Tap Ensemble
Rhythm Theory Tap Ensemble is a Florida-based professional tap company founded in Jacksonville, Florida. The choreography they perform is created the same way a composer would write a symphony, emphasizing different parts for each instrument working together to create one composition. The methods Rhythm Theory uses to compose, rehearse and perform come from concepts and processes in music theory, which is what inspired the company name. The ensemble premiered its first piece at the Romanza Dance Kaleidoscope concert in the Spring of 2018 and continues to perform throughout the state of Florida while also focusing on creating tap dance films.
Tap Sensation is Tampa Bay’s newest youth/young adult tap dance troupe based out of Pasco County! Its director, Cathy Scavelli, has been a tap instructor in Pinellas and Pasco county for over 25 years and has previously been a choreographer for the Rhythm and Soul Tap Company. She takes pride in creating diverse and intricate choreography that best suits the ability of her troupe members. The inception of Tap Sensation, August 2018, came from the need to offer more tap dance opportunities to students in Pasco County and the surrounding counties. In its first year, there are 19 members ranging in age from 9 to 22 years old.
Tap Sensation consists of junior, intermediate and advanced/pre-professional levels. These dancers are thrilled to continue to learn, preserve and promote tap dance! Being a part of this troupe allows students who are passionate about tap dance to build their tap skills in technique, improvisation, choreography and performance. They will also learn original, historical choreography from the great tap masters of the past. Cathy is in full agreement with Skip Cunningham and the late, great Gregory Hines who have both stated that we must put tap dance in front of more eyes in order to create more fans of this art form. Tap Sensation’s first year performances includes the Strawberry Festival in Plant City, FL, and City Walk at Universal Orlando.
